Wireless upgrades for 9-1-1 service

The next time you call 9-1-1 on your cell phone local police will be able to track down your location in a much better way.

The wireless upgrades are about a week old now.

Telus has worked with waterloo regional police and Meghan Fielding with the company tells 570 news it’s a way for emergency operators to give a fairly accurate location to emergency responders.

This upgrade country-wide now gives them a specific location within about 50 metres.

She says more than half of the 9-1-1 calls made are made on mobile phones.
