Region closer to amalgamating emergency services

Waterloo Region is a step closer to amalgamating its emergency dispatch services.
Council has thrown its support behind the recommendations of a dispatch model working group.
Its job was to look for ways to reduce response times.
It says more than two minutes could be saved by consolidating fire dispatching services into one, which would be run out of the Regional Police Communications Centre.
Other recommendations include having just one facility to look after Cambridge Central Ambulance, police and fire dispatch services.
The recommendations still need the approval of the various councils around the region.
Regional council hopes a final decision will be made by June.
In the meantime, it plans to ask the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to come to the table and work with it to reduce response times.
