Local architect wins Record’s Barnraiser Award

The winner of the second annual Waterloo Region Record Barnraiser Award is being described as someone who puts the community first.

Roger Farwell is a Senior Partner and Architect with The Walter Fedy Partnership. He does work with a number of community groups including The Salvation Army, the YMCA, the local Chamber of Commerce, and the Prosperity Council.

He was nominated for the award by the CEO of the Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation, Rosemary Smith. She says she first met Farwell through his work with the local Chamber of Commerce, where she says he participated fully, but never boastfully. She says he put ideas on the table that needed to be discussed.

Smith says the community is fortunate to have the leadership of someone like Farwell, who works on behalf of the community instead of himself. She says he quietly leads with integrity and commitment, and always does the right thing.

Farwell tells 570 News, he is humbled by the award. He says he was surprised  and he credits all the people he’s worked with. He says the most important thing this community needs right now is the courage to make bold decisions to move forward. He says this community has a legacy of courage and conviction, and it’s time for us to pull together.

The Barnraiser Award recognizes a person or group who contributes to collaborative achievement and exemplifies a community-minded spirit.
