Local health-care workers return from Haiti

A group of six local health-care workers from Waterloo Region have returned from Haiti.

They were part of Yvonne Martin’s group.

The Elmira woman was the first confirmed Canadian casualty of Tuesday’s earthquake.

14 hundred Canadians are still unaccounted for in Haiti.

Defence sources are now saying that 800 of our troops could soon be deployed to Haiti for peacekeeping duty.

The Canadian Press says that soldiers have been put on standby.

They say a deployment order could come as early as Saturday.
