Amalgamation being tossed around by two cities in the region

The cities of Kitchener and Waterloo are being asked to consider becoming one.
Amalgamation talks will be introduced at council meetings in both cities Monday night.
The high tech community is driving this effort and want to see a referendum question included on election ballots this fall. That question: “Would you support members of council engaging in a dialogue about the merits of merging the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo?
Today’s Record reports those pushing for the talks include Communitech’s Ian Klugman, Sandvine’s president Dave Caputo and executive director of the Waterloo Region Children’s Museum David Marskell.
The move does not include the City of Cambridge. Mayor Doug Craig has been clear he is against amalgamation.
