Alleged Christmas Day bomber pleads not guilty

A not guilty plea has been entered for the 23-year-old Nigerian man charged with trying to blow up a Northwest airlines flight.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has been arraigned on six charges in connection with the attempted bombing of the plane on Christmas Day.

The most severe charge is the attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

That carries a potential punishment of life in prison.

Officials say the weapon was an explosive hidden in his underwear.
