Shen Yun set to dazzle

Dozens of dancers, dazzling costumes and thundering drums will shine the spotlight on Chinese culture and history when Shen Yun comes to Kitchener’s Centre in the Square.

Three performances will take place tonight, tomorrow and Friday offering audiences a look at Chinese culture over the past 5,000 years.

Organizer Joel Chipkar says the backdrops alone will transport audiences to another world.

He says the backdrops are 20 feet high and span the entire length of the stage.

Chipkar says approximately 100 performers are touring with the show, including a 40 piece live orchestra.

All performances are narrated in both Chinese and English.

He says through music and dance the artists evoke themes of virtue, courage and compassion.

Chipkar says this is their second time performing in the region and there are plans for them to come back.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier Chinese dance and music company.

They have performed in over 100 cities around the world.
