WATERLOO – It’s budget day for the City of Waterloo.
The Finance and Strategic Planning Committee will spend the afternoon going over the document before it goes to council tonight for final approval.
This also marks the final year in a three-year budget.
In this case, the goal is to keep the tax increase at 1.57-percent, which would be in line with the Municipal Price Index.
Several key items will be voted on tonight, as part of the budget.
Among them: changes to the way the city funds stormwater management, and the lifting of a moratorium on new hires – a moratorium that has been in place since 2008. As well, the city looks to prioritize projects to be funded through the Capital Infrastructure Reinvestment Reserve Fund.
Also on the agenda today is whether to provide additional funding to the cash-strapped Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery.
