Two in hospital following morning fire in Kitchener

Regional police and crews from Kitchener Fire continue to investigate following an early morning fire in Kitchener. 

According to fire officials, that blaze occurred at an abandoned building at 151 Ontario Street, with the fire contained to that building. 

Platoon Chief Jeff Noble tells CityNews 570 two individuals – a man and a woman – are in hospital and being intubated for their injuries.

He said they were transported to St. Mary's General Hospital and Grand River Hospital. 

A portion of Weber Street was temporarily closed around 6 a.m. and has since reopened, though a closure remains in effect on Ontario Street North between Weber Street West and Duke Street West. 

The Office of the Provincial Fire Marshall is also involved in the investigation.
