Regional police part of provincial strategy to fight human trafficking

Waterloo Regional Police are joining 20 Ontario police services in the fight against human trafficking.
The Provincial Human Trafficking Intelligence-led Joint Forces Strategy (IJFS) was officially launched on Wednesday. Other partner forces include Halton, London and Ontario Provincial Police.
Two recent investigations were highlighted at a news conference Wed. to showcase the work of the IJFS.
In January, police in Kingston launched an investigation into the alleged sexual assault and trafficking of a female victim across Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton. Several other victims were identified in Ontario and Quebec.
Four suspects were arrested.
The other investigation was led by police in Barrie, in which females were allegedly trafficked out of hotels.
One suspect was arrested in May, another in November.
