Regional police are looking for a suspect after a robbery in Waterloo, one that led to a security guard being assaulted.

Police said a suspect went into a business in the King Street South and William Street area Thursday afternoon, took and concealed merchandise and tried to leave the store.

However, police said security staff in the store confronted the suspect, who then proceeded to assault the guard and fled on foot with the merchandise.

Police said the suspect is described as a white male in his 40's, about five foot nine with a thin build and short hair.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket, with a navy blue jacket underneath, dark blue jeans, white and grey shoes, a black and red Canada ball cap with white writing, sunglasses and a blue COVID mask.

Police said the security guard suffered minor injuries.
