Conestoga Mall working closely with police after another telecommunications store robbery

By Erin Anderson

Conestoga Mall is working closely with police following two telecommunications store robberies in less than two weeks.

“The safety of our shoppers and employees is a top priority. We take proactive safety measures to promote a safe environment,” said Conestoga Mall General Manager, Karl Ditoro, in an e-mail statement to CityNews 570. “Due to the sensitive nature of safety and security we do not disclose all of our measures as this would compromise our efforts. What I can tell you is that we have a highly trained security staff in place. We also have an excellent working relationship with the local police department.”

Ditoro confirmed the latest robbery happened Monday night at a Rogers store.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, three males armed with knives entered the business around 7:30 p.m. and demanded merchandise. They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of items, and there were no reported injuries.

On April 29, police were called to another telecommunications store at the mall, as two males allegedly brandished conducted energy weapons and stole merchandise.

In that incident, two employees suffered minor injuries.

Both robberies remain under investigation.
