Laurier captures first-ever OUA rugby medal

By Mark Pare

A first for the Laurier Golden Hawks men's rugby team, and they did it in the latest edition of the “Battle of Waterloo.”

Despite a 6-0 first half deficit, they were able to take down their cross-town rival Waterloo Warriors 17-6 to snag up an OUA bronze medal to wrap up their 2018 campaign.

It's a bit of redemption for the Hawks, who lost in the bronze medal game last year.

The Warriors went up early with a pair of penalty goals from 2018 OUA MVP Mitch Voralek, but that's all the visitors to University Stadium would be able to muster in this one.

Aidan Nesbitt scored the game's first try in the second half.

And then it was 2017 OUA MVP Andrew Quattrin adding his first of two trys in the final 10 minutes to round out the scoring.
