Kitchener's Jamal Murray was recognized for his performance in the NBA bubble.
The Grand River Collegiate Institute alum was named Sports Illustrated's “Breakout of the Year” at its annual awards held virtually on Saturday.
Murray was a force for the Denver Nuggets, leading the team to a Western Conference Final berth before falling to the eventual champion LA Lakers.
Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic showed his pride, saying he's “immensely proud of this young man who started by playing basketball at our @CityKitchener Stanley Park Community Centre.”
