The City of Waterloo, along with Immigration Partnership and Reception House, invites residents to attend a Neighbourhood Summit workshop focused on refugee resettlement.

For the past several months, Reception House has been coordinating resettlement processes, including temporary accommodation for multiple Afghan refugee families. Neighbours have been keen to help the newcomers in meaningful ways identified by the refugee families.

Waterloo Region is a caring community, and we thank neighbours for being generous, inclusive and welcoming. Arriving to a new community, having fled war and crisis, can be extremely stressful. Being friendly and welcoming supports our newest residents as they get to know their new community, create new friendships and start a new life.

Reception House, Immigration Partnership and the City of Waterloo Community and Neighbourhood Services team have recently collaborated on this workshop to share information about refugee resettlement and demonstrate concrete ways neighbours can contribute to these efforts in meaningful ways in any neighbourhood.

The workshop will highlight:

  • Canada’s programs for vulnerable Afghans
  • Affordable and flexible housing solutions
  • Medical care options
  • Monetary donations
  • Donations of clothing and other household items
  • Sponsorship and family reunification efforts
  • Volunteering to support area resettlement programs

Workshop: Refugee resettlement and support neighbours can offer

Date: Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021

Time: 8 – 9 p.m.

Platform: Virtual, using the Zoom platform

This workshop is free. Please register online to reserve your spot.
