They will be added to the fleet over the next two years

The Region of Waterloo will be investing $10 million per year into bolstering its Paramedic Services.

Regional councillors approved staff recommendations to bring in more ambulances and hire more staff, over the course of the next two years.

The first vehicles will hit the road this October, with three new 12-hour ambulances brought in.

Eight are planned for next year, and up to 10 are expected to join the fleet by 2024.

Delayed response times and a lack of resources have been cited as an issue in Waterloo Region for some time. Part of the problem has been linked to population growth, but experts say paramedics across Ontario are facing challenges of delayed response times.
