The Working Centre to create 38 new housing units

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The Working Centre is undertaking a substantial project at the organization's current property at 97 Victoria Street in Kitchener.

It has announced plans to build 38 new housing units to assist those experiencing homelessness locally.

The project, in partnership with Perimeter Development Corporation and BNKC Architects, will transform the existing properties into a campus-style cluster of common areas, service spaces and housing.

It will include an expanded St. John’s Kitchen, courtyard, as well as on-site healthcare and mental health supports.

The total cost of the project is $19 million, with The Working Centre contributing $6 million in-kind land value. Perimeter Development Corporation kicked off the capital campaign with a $1 million donation. The goal is to raise $5 million.

More information about the capital campaign can be found here.

The Working Centre is also confident the project will be eligible for significant government grants.

The hope is to have units move-in ready by December 2023.
