Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region warns of temporary school bus route cancellations (update)

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) is warning of temporary school bus route cancellations starting September 19.

The organization said it's still dealing with an ongoing bus driver shortage. As a result, some bus routes have seen frequent, prolonged delays since classes resumed. Those that continue to experience consistent delays of more than 30 minutes will be cancelled as of Monday.

The sporadic, temporary cancellations are expected to continue through to December.

Student Transportation Services said most bus routes will be operating normally, and that any cancellations will be implemented as a 'last resort'.

“We hope that this proactive message will allow families and caregivers to better prepare for and react to the cancellation of bus routes,” read an online message from STSWR.

Cancellations will be done on a week-to-week basis and impacted families will be notified the day prior.

Families are also encouraged to subscribe to notifications from STSWR and check its website to see the latest updates.
