Sir John A. MacDonald Secondary has best ranking in Waterloo Region: Fraser Institute

The Fraser Institute has ranked regional schools from best to worst performing, as part of an annual province-wide study.

The report card compares 738 anglophone, francophone, public and Catholic schools, as well as a small number of independent schools to determine how well students are doing on their reading, writing and math tests.

Senior Policy Analyst at Fraser Institute, Angela MacLeod, says the best performing school for 2017/18 in Kitchener is Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute.

“They scored a 7.2 out of 10. That's quite a good score. The average in the province is usually about six. So anything that overs a six, we're seeing as schools doing quite well. Resurrection school is doing quite well behind them, which has a 7.0 out of 10.”

She says the best-performing school in the region is located in the city of Waterloo.

“Sir John A. MacDonald school has an 8.1 out of 10, and they're doing quite well. Waterloo [Collegiate Institute] is doing a 7.2 out of 10, so that's above the provincial average.”

MacLeod says Père-René-de-Galinée ranks as the best performing school in Cambridge.

“They have a 6.9 out of 10. So again, it's a little bit lower than the other schools in the region, but they're doing good compared to the schools in the province.”
