Shortage of pain relief meds for kids impacting local pharmacies

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The ongoing shortage of pain relief medication for children is being felt across Waterloo Region.

Grand River Hospital confirms that the situation is impacting all local pharmacies.

That includes the three pharmacies that are run by the hospital at the K-W and Freeport campuses. They are currently out of all liquid, drop and chewable medications.

GRH says it is working to ensure young inpatients will have access to any children's pain relief drugs as needed throughout their stay.

It is also advising families to consult their doctors or pharmacists for relief alternatives, adding the hospital is working with suppliers to re-stock as soon as possible.
