Regional Council approves Kitchener building lease for CTS

By Evan Taylor

Regional Council has made one of the final steps toward the development of the Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) site at 150 Duke Street in Kitchener.

Planning concerns were discussed in a private session before council voted to endorse the leasing agreement at the public meeting.

Council has submitted their applications to the federal and provincial governments, and now they wait and hope to get approved for funding.

In a release, council said a design team is working on a plan for the CTS site, concerning how the building will be set up.

This team will be working in conjunction with other teams that are focused on handling security and policing concerns.

Council also noted that public engagement and education continues to go well, as they hope to alleviate concerns for safety and neighborhood relations.

The interim site, also located at 150 Duke St., is expected to open by late summer.

The permanent site is expected to open by February 2020.
