With a grand total of 490 collisions, Homer Watson and Block Line in Kitchener is considered to be the most dangerous intersection in Waterloo Region in 2018.
The intersection has an estimated average annual excess social cost of over of $255,000.
Next on the list is nowhere near 490 collisions, but at 161, in Kitchener, Fairway Road at Wilson Avenue.
And coming in at number three and the worst road in Cambridge with 118 collisions is Hespeler Road at Bishop Street.
Hespeler Road and Bishop also comes in tied for first for the worst intersection for cyclists with eight collisions.
Another eight collisions to the year can be observed at Hespeler Road and Munch Ave./Isherwood Ave.
Bob Henderson manager of transportation, engineering for the region tells the Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS they do apply countermeasures and safety measures that may be impacting pedestrians or cyclists.
“There's a number of measures that we can take. But again the motorized vehicle locations where we're having problems, we'll drill down into the data and look at what's actually happening and see if there's some common patterns we can identify.”
Henderson said you might see some changes to mitigate these collsions.
“There could be fully protected left turns implemented, right turn on red prohibitions and subtle geometric changes at intersections to address collisions.”
