“Popcorn is a possibility at the movies. We are really happy to hear that,” said the owner of Princess Cinemas in Waterloo, John Tutt, who is taking this weekend to prepare for theatres reopening once again.
“We were confused because yes we can open at 50 per cent and restaurants can open at 50 per cent and serve food. What's the difference?” Tutt said. “A lot of the theatres and especially the big chain cinemas called the government out on it- and now we can open on Jan. 31 at the Twin and the original.”
The cinemas will be playing Licorice Pizza again, as Tutt said because of the closure in the new year, they were only able to play the movie for about two weeks.
“This is likely going to be one of the best picture Oscar nominees when the nominations come out on Feb. 8.”
We are also bringing back Lady Gaga's movie House of Gucci, [and] the Shakespearean tragedy Macbeth,” he said. “Other things coming in the future [include] the best Oscar short film, live animated action and short documentaries. In addition, a lot of the high-quality foreign language films are coming out.”
Princess Cinemas will be operating at under 50 per cent capacity, meaning the Twin can have 75 people per cinema. Movie lovers must also wear masks and have their QR codes ready upon entry.
