Paramedics in Waterloo Region spread holiday cheer with Santa to Seniors

Paramedics in Waterloo Region spread some Christmas cheer as they helped fulfill Christmas wishes for area seniors this week.
Over 150 gifts were delivered to five nursing homes.
“We had a total of 307 nursing and retirement home residents receive gifts through our Santa to Seniors program this year,” said organizer, Annette Jang.
“A week before we also made deliveries of gifts and bulk donations to area seniors.”
With the help of area nursing homes and long-term care homes, program volunteers locate seniors who are isolated, do not have family nearby, or have minimal contact with loved ones.
“We gather wish lists from each of the seniors and with the help of our community, fulfill their wish lists,” Jang said.
“The community really gets involved and everyone wants to take part by purchasing new gifts for seniors. They drop them off at our paramedics headquarters. We bag them and tag them, and then we deliver them.”
Deliveries were made to various locations throughout Waterloo Region including St. Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge Country Manor, Fairview Senior Community, and St. Luke’s Place.
“We’re now in out 11th year. It’s very rewarding. As an organizer, a volunteer, and a paramedic, it’s just so great to see the community involved,” Jang said.
Local paramedics look forward to Santa to Seniors each year and to paying a special holiday visit with local seniors.
“Thank you to our giving community and our paramedics. This program includes seniors, nursing home staff, paramedics, and the community,” Jang said.
“It brings everyone together, and that’s what Christmas is all about.”
