Thousands of people are expected to show up for the 53rd annual New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale (NHMRS) this weekend.
John Reimer, Chair of the NHMRS committee, says they have raised over $14 million dollars since the event's inception back in 1967.
The two day auctioning event features delicious food, vintage farm equipment, and hand-stitched quilts, with all proceeds going directly to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and their domestic and international relief work.
“All of the money that they spend on purchasing something here, goes to directly to the MCC and the charity. We raise money separately to pay for all of the expenses and so forth. So they can be confident that all the money that they spend on food or auction and that kind of stuff, that's going to a charity that is doing worthy work around the world.”
New this year, NHMRS is introducing an online option for their 2019 auction sale.
“We are excited to announce that we will be simultaneously auctioning quilts online and in person during the sale.”
The sale is being held at the Fairgrounds in New Hamburg on Friday, May 24 (5 – 9 p.m.) and Saturday, May 25 (6:45 a.m. – afternoon).
There is no fee to enter the Fairgrounds.
