New Dundee getting its own reverse-Santa parade

By Erin Anderson

Santa Claus is comin' to New Dundee this weekend.

Wilmot Township Councillor Angie Hallman was on The Mike Farwell Show on 570 NEWS on Monday.

She said the 2019 parade was unfortunately cancelled due to a strain on volunteers, so they couldn't let it happen again in 2020.

“This is inspired by wanting to keep the kids as engaged and as happy as possible in our community, so we invite people to come and spread some holiday cheer.”

Participants are asked to decorate their vehicles so they can show it off to Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The parade will be similar to the ones that were put on in K-W over the last two weekends, meaning they'll be done 'reverse-style,' and all the floats will be stationary.

“I've worked really closely with Region of Waterloo Public Health to make sure we have all the appropriate safety measures in place. Volunteers are screened on arrival and ahead of time, and physical distancing measures will be in place,” said Hallman.

Wilmot Fire officials will be on hand to collect any non-perishable food or toy donations for those in need over the holidays.

The parade is happening Sunday afternoon in the New Dundee Community Centre parking lot, beginning at 1 p.m.
