National Hockey Card Day sweeps across the country

By Dana Roberts

Collectors from across the country are celebrating National Hockey Card Day.

The special event sees various sports collectible shops, including CloutsnChara Sports Cards locally, offer a free pack of hockey cards to anyone who pops in.

“We get ages from 5 months old with their mom or dad to 60, 70, 80 year olds coming to our store to get a free pack of hockey cards,” Dan Pollard, Vice President of CloutsnChara Sports Cards, tells KitchenerToday.com. “Obviously online, that's our main business. But we're extremely happy that we have this program for our in store customers and we're glad that they all come to our store to pick up their free pack.”

The event has been celebrated in Canada and the United States since 2010. Locally, CloutsnChara Sports Cards came on board with the annual tradition in 2012.

Pollard says they are expecting up to 400 people to come in to the shop today to take advantage of the free cards. They will also be offering other special deals in honour of the occassion. National Hockey Card Day just so happens to fall on CloutsnChara Sports Cards' monthly traders night.

“We have traders nights tonight where collectors can come to our store and trade with each other. So alot of the collectors tonight will be trading to complete their set.”

National Hockey Card Day is sponsored by Upper Deck.
