Metrolinx adding five extra trips to Kitchener GO line

Kitchener GO is slowly starting to return back to service as it was before the pandemic.

Matt Llewellyn of Metrolinx says five extra trips are available on board the Kitchener GO line.

“We're really starting to see an increase in ridership and demand and so we want to make sure our service is keeping up with what our customers expect of us, which is a safe, reliable trip to wherever it is they are going. So we've introduced more than 40 different safety measures on board our vehicles, our busses and our trains to help keep people safe.”

He says this is one of the largest changes to service that GO transit has ever made.

“We're basically hitting reset on the schedule, and so this will affect pretty much every single customer — whether you're just coming back to our service this Fall after a break because of COVID-19 or if you've been a regular train-rider throughout the entire pandemic. We're asking everyone to go online and check their trip times because their trips may need some adjustments.”

Llewellyn says with this addition, they are slowly starting to return back to pre-pandemic service frequency.

The five new trips on the Kitchener GO line bring the total to 35 weekday trips. That is at 81 per cent of what the frequency of trips were before COVID, which was when there were 43 trips per weeks.
