Looking at what’s planned for Oktoberfest

After two years of modified celebrations due to the pandemic, those behind Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest are ready to welcome residents back to in-person events.

The 54th annual festival begins Friday, September 23, and will run over the next four weekends.

Oktoberfest kicks off will five local Festhallen opening their doors to celebrate German heritage and community traditions.

The official opening ceremony and keg tapping will take place at Carl Zehr Square infront of Kitchener City Hall on Friday, October 7. The newly expanded Willkommen Platz will also be open in downtown Kitchener from Oct. 6 to Oct. 9.

Welcoming back visitors from across the Region, Ontario and beyond, Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is ready to celebrate!”, Alfred Lowrick, executive director of K-W Oktoberfest said in a news release. “We are pleased that our community sponsors and civic organizations continue to value the contribution Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest makes to the economic vitality of our Region and the Province of Ontario.”

The annual K-W Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade will also return on Monday, October 10 at 8:30 a.m. Welcoming families back along the Weber Street route.
