Local ER wait times about 30-minutes to an hour longer than provincial average

It's not ideal but it also could be worse.

The average time spent waiting to first see a doctor at local emergency departments is about a half to a full hour longer than the provincial average, according to Health Quality Ontario.

As of May, HQO says the average wait to first assessment by a doctor across Ontario was just over two hours.

Locally, the average wait time at St. Mary's General Hospital was just under 2.5 hours, at Grand River Hospital it was about two hours and 45 minutes, and at Cambridge Memorial it was nearly three hours.

Looking at those numbers, it's easy to see they're not great but they also could be worse.

Compared to other hospitals of a similar size, the wait times are also comparable. Guelph General, London's Victoria and University Hospitals, Hamilton General, and Ottawa's Civic Campus are all also in the 2.5 to three hour window.

As always though, things could also be worse.

The average wait at Toronto's SickKids and Sunnybrook hospitals are both about four hours, at Windsor Regional's Metropolitan Campus it's just over five.
