Kitchener golf courses to gradually reopen next week

Kitchener's city-run golf courses will be opening up again next week.
The Rockway Golf Course will be opening on Monday, May 25, and Doon Valley Golf course will slowly open up starting next Friday, May 29.
Kitchener's Manager of Sport Development and Golf, Bob Cheyne, says they will be gradually opening up to ensure they meet all safety standards.
“When you add the extra layer of all the different COVID protections, it was easier for us to ensure that we wanted to meet the needs of the public as quickly as possible, so to stagger them allowed us to ensure that courses were available as quickly as we could and we were able to meet the safety requirements for a safe and enjoyable experience.”
He says the facility and all shared equipment will be regularly sanitized.
“Various areas of the course, where there will be common touchpoints and there will be bathrooms, there will be an increased level of cleaning. The carts themselves will go through a cleaning process as well between uses. There are definitely different measures in place to ensure sanitation needs are being met.”
Cheyne says there will be many new safety changes made to keep patrons safe.
“They will see markings on the pavement, indicating physical distancing reminders with signage throughout the course. Golf carts will be single-player only, unless you are from the same household. There will also be other items not on the course that they're not used to like ball-washers, rakes and benches.”
He says golfers should come no earlier than 20 minutes before their tee-time.
Cheyne is reminding players to bring their own food and water as all fountains and cafes will be closed.
Visitors will also have to take all their garbage out with them.
Staff will also not be accepting cash payments, so remember to bring your debit or credit card.
