After 16 years of representing Southwest Kitchener, city councillor Kelly Galloway-Sealock has announced she will not be seeking re-election this fall.
“It's time for me to step aside and have a new voice represent Ward 5,” she wrote in an announcement. “It's been an honour and a privilege to represent the voice of the Ward 5 community and Kitchener as a whole. I've met so many wonderful people and have had the opportunity to learn so much. Lots of work has been accomplished but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Kitchener mayor Berry Vrbanovic tweeted his thanks to Galloway-Sealock for her 16 years of “amazing public service.”
“From being a champion of parks & amenities in your growing ward to championing the rights of elected officials starting a family, you have worked tirelessly on behalf of your constituents. You will be greatly missed!”
Galloway-Sealock had several notable accomplishments during her four terms in office, from obtaining funding to complete McLennan Park five years ahead of schedule, helping change the Ontario Municipal Act to include maternity and parental leave for municipal councils.
“Being on Kitchener Council has afforded me so many amazing opportunities,” she wrote. “It's been a rewarding experience and I will forever be grateful to the Ward 5 community for allowing me the opportunity to be their voice and watch Kitchener excel.”
