Former North Dumfries mayor to run for seat on regional council

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

While appearing on the Mike Farwell Show on CityNews 570, Rob Deutschmann announced that he will be seeking a seat as a regional councillor this fall. Deutschmann was the mayor of North Dumfries, and in turn, also a regional councillor from 2010 to 2014.

“We are in such crazy and turbulent times nationally, provincially, and municipally,” he said. “Based on my experience as a former mayor and regional councillor, I felt the call to step forward and offer my services.”

Deutschmann added that despite his previous experience, he's coming in with fresh ideas.

“Even though I was there for four years, I don't feel like a long-term incumbent. I think I still bring a fresh perspective,” he said. “Walking into all of that from 2010 to 2014, it took me two years to get up to speed. I feel that the four years when I was there, we made transformational change in North Dumfries at the municipal and regional level.”

One thing that Deutschmann harped on was the importance of the budget, calling it the “most important document.”

“I presented budgets when I was at the regional table a few times. Understanding that process going in is a big advantage,” he said.

Deutschmann added that although he's been in the position before, that does not mean he's guaranteed a win.”

“There are going to be a lot of good candidates. People can decide what they want to do or not do in terms of whether they like what I have to say.”

His official website with a detailed policy platform will be up next week. That can be found at robforcouncil.ca once it has launched.
