By CityNews Kitchener Staff

A plane belonging to Flair Airlines ended up in the grass at the Region of Waterloo International Airport Friday morning.

The plane is located just off the runway.

In a statement, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said it will be looking into the runway overrun of the Boeing 737. The TSB is now sending a team of investigators to the scene.

The airline has also now provided information about the incident.

It said flight F8 501 from Vancouver to the Region of Waterloo International Airport exited the runway at the end of its landing. No injuries were reported.

Crew members and 134 passengers deplaned and were transported to the terminal by bus.

“The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is our top priority,” the airline added in a post on social media.

As a result of the incident, all remaining arrivals and departures at the local airport Friday are cancelled.

CityNews 570 reporter Jonathan Strom was at the scene Friday morning. He said at the time, the door to the plane was open and there were some emergency vehicles there as well. Police remained on scene, but fire crews that were there earlier had already left.

“At the moment, no activity going on around the plane. However, I am hearing that they are working on figuring out how its (plane) going to be towed off of this grass, and Flair will likely be in charge of figuring that out.”
