Cambridge moving forward with plans for new community park

By Erin Anderson

Councillors in the City of Cambridge have approved a request to help build a new community park.

Hallman Construction Ltd. is pitching in up to $2.5-million for the project in the Westwood Village subdivision.

Council endorsed the contribution at a meeting on Tuesday.

Both the company and the city collaborated on developing a concept design.

“The park will service the 4,000-6,000 residents of Westwood Village and surrounding area,” said a release from the City of Cambridge. “It is expected to feature a variety of amenities such as multi-use courts, special seating areas, shade structures, parking, play structures, a washroom building, and a picnic shelter. The park will connect to the proposed school site and to the larger community through a pedestrian bridge and trail system.”

Public consultations are being planned before any final approval is made.

Officials are hoping construction on the park can begin in fall 2021, with a completion estimate of spring 2022.
