A significant amount of snow is in the forecast for later this week.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Waterloo Region, saying the area could receive between 10 and 20 cm of snow, Wednesday through Friday.

The snow is expected to be heavy at times. There will also be reduced visibility due to blowing snow.

Rain showers on Tuesday evening will transition to snow by early Wednesday morning, according to the weather agency.

Snow will start to taper off by Friday morning.
