Woodstock mayor facing new charges in sex assault scandal

By Stuart McGinn

Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch is facing three new charges in his sex assault scandal, now bringing the total number of criminal charges against him to six.

London Police announced late Tuesday the 47-year-old has been charged with three additional counts of sexual assault.

This investigation was first launched in February. At the time, Birtch was charged with assault, sexual assault, and sexual assault with choking.

Police have said the accused and the victim in this case are known to each other.

The Woodstock Mayor went on paid leave last week.

This investigation is being led by London Police because Birtch serves as the Vice Chair of the Woodstock Police Services Board.

Birtch is due in court on July 4.
