Waterloo-based Research In Motion says revenue grew 31 per cent in the second quarter compared to the same quarter in 2009. Revenue was over US$4.6 billion.
Blackberry shipments were up close to 50 per cent.
RIM earned $796.7 million for the quarter, compared with a profit of $475.6 million a year ago.
The company says it added 4.5 million net new BlackBerry subscriber accounts in the quarter to bring its subscriber account base to over 50 million. RIM shipped 12.1 million smartphones in the quarter.
Analyst expectations compiled by Thomson Reuters had called for second-quarter revenue of $4.5 billion and earnings per share of $1.34.
Hi-tech analyst, Carmi Levy tells 570 News RIM needs to keep its’ product pipeline pumping.
He says in isolation the numbers look good, but the smartphone market is growing faster than Research In Motion.
RIM shares were up over two dollars a share in after hours trading.
