Indoor cricket nets at Cowan Recreation Centre get a sponsor

Construction continues on the Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park in Kitchener but once it’s open, it will offer all kinds of amenities including for cricketers.
In addition to outdoor options, the state-of-art recreation facility will feature a dedicated indoor space for cricket players to practice and train.
Kitchener-based mortgage broker, Grow with Nav Inc., is contributing $100,000 over 10 years to sponsor the new “Grow Nation Cricket Nets”, which will be the city’s first municipally-owned and operated indoor cricket nets.
“Together with the outdoor cricket amenities at RBJ Schlegel Park, these new indoor nets will help establish the park as a year-round destination for cricket, expanding opportunities for residents to enjoy one of Kitchener’s fastest-growing sports,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic in a release.
“Cricket is part of who I am,” said Grow with Nav Inc. Founder, Navjot Bindra. “I grew up with the sport, and now I get to watch my son pick up a bat in the same city where we’re building our life. Sponsoring the cricket nets is about giving Kitchener’s kids and families a place to play the game they love, without leaving the city. For me, this is what growing with your community looks like.”
The city said the practice nets will include an 18-metre lane equipped with a bowling machine, plus a 38-metre lane designed for both bowlers and batters to train at full-length.
The Cowan Recreation Centre is on track to open later this year although no date has been announced.
