Reminder: You don’t need your Voter Information Card to vote

There’s a reminder being issued to Ontario voters: You don’t need your Voter Information Card to cast a ballot on Thursday.

Elections Ontario has confirmed that cards were mailed out to all registered voters last week. However, some people living in Waterloo Region have not received theirs yet.

“Voters who are concerned that they have not yet received their VICs should note that they are not a requirement for voting,” reads an email statement from Elections Ontario.

While a request has been sent to Canada Post for comment, the agency did issue a warning last week about delivery delays because of all the recent snowfall.

On election day, registered voters can cast a ballot with or without their Voter Information Card. All they need to do is look up their designated polling station and bring a valid ID.

If you don’t receive your Voter Information Card, you can find your polling station online.

People can also head to their local election office before Wednesday at 6 p.m. to cast an early ballot there.

When it comes to early voting, data released Monday showed 6.14 per cent of eligible Ontarians voted in three days of advanced voting in the snap election.

It’s tough to compare because in 2022, it was 9.92 per cent of voters over the span of 10 days and in 2018, it was 6.8 per cent over five days.
