Kitchener rally marks third anniversary of Russia-Ukraine conflict

By Justin Koehler

Kitchener is hosting a rally outside city hall as part of a global day of action to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022 in a major escalation of a conflict that began in 2014.

The ongoing conflict has been categorized as largest and deadliest conflict in Europe since the second World War. It has led to hundreds of thousands of military casualties and tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilian casualties.

Sunday’s event will be held by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Waterloo-Wellington chapter, with the goal of bringing further support and understanding to the local community. Many Ukrainians have since fled into Canada as refugees since the war first began.

Other major cities across the country will be holding similar rallies including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, Halifax and Vancouver.

The rally will take place between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. outside Kitchener City Hall at 200 King Street W.
