Blustering beavertails! A new t-shirt campaign is bringing back an old Canadian classic superhero to help local charities in Waterloo Region.
United Way Waterloo Region has partnered with Lev Gleason Publications and Comichouse to make limited edition t-shirts of Captain Canuck. The design is based on the vintage 1981 Captain Canuck Club Member logo that was very popular between the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
Sales of the t-shirts go towards the over 80 organizations in the region that are under the United Way umbrella, including those for homelessness and addiction services
Scott Hamilton, the Senior Director Of Philanthropy at United Way of Waterloo Region Communities, said since the campaign launched they have had orders as far as Alberta, British Columbia and even some parts of the United States.
“It’s a sign that when you support local charities, not only can you feel a little bit like a superhero, but it doesn’t take a massive donation,” said Hamilton. “You can do something as small as putting on a cool t-shirt that shows you support local charities in need.”
T-shirts are $30 each and are produced locally by Civilian Screen Printing.
