Police thwart attempted theft in Woolwich Township

Regional police have made two arrests after thwarting an attempted theft in Woolwich Township.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night in the area of Earl Martin Drive and Union Street.

According to police they were alerted of a parked vehicle with unattached plates from their automated license plate recognition system.

A witness then told police they believed a theft may have occured.

It was then determined by police the two suspects were attempting to steal aluminum from outside a business.

As a result a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, both from the GTA were arrested and charged with attempted theft.

The 27-year-old is facing additional charges of operating an unsafe motor-vehicle, using a plate not authorized for a vehicle and operating a vehicle on a highway with no insurance.

Both men were held for a bail hearing.
