Local advocacy group calls for predictable funding for public transit

By Matt Hutcheson

The Tri-Cities Transport Action Group (TriTAG) is hosting a rally Saturday, Oct 19 at Waterloo Public Square, calling on upper levels of government to improve transit funding, specifically here in Waterloo Region.

The event is being held as part of Transit Action Week, a national initiative where transit advocacy groups across the country unite to demand better, more sustainable and accessible transit systems.

The groups want to see funding models that are stable so transit companies can ensure reliable and accessible services. They also would like to see the Canada Public Transit Fund accelerated to address urgent needs. It’s not set to come into effect until 2026.

In a release, TriTAG said increased operational funding would enable Grand River Transit to provide a frequent service network, which it believes would be transformational for the competitiveness of local transit.

WHEN: Saturday, October 19, 2024. 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

WHERE: Waterloo Public Square, 75 King St S, Waterloo, ON N2J 1P2
