Fatal collision in Guelph leads to dangerous driving charges

A collision that led to the death of a woman in Guelph has now resulted in charges.

Guelph Police say the incident took place back on Sept. 26 around 3:30 p.m., when a Chevrolet sedan left the parking lot of a retail store on Eramosa Road near Stevenson Street North. In doing so, the driver struck two pedestrians who were walking in the direction of the store.

A 74-year-old Guelph man was transported to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries, while a 72-year-old Guelph woman sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene as officers began their investigation, with police saying he was cooperative throughout. The 95-year-old man from Guelph-Eramoso Township has now been charged with careless driving causing death.

He is set to appear in court in December.
