Water restrictions lifted for Waterloo Region after crews complete repairs to ‘critical’ pipe

Water restrictions in Waterloo Region have been lifted as crews completed repairs to a large pipe that supplies about 20 per cent of the local drinking water.

On Monday, crews drained the liquid from the pipe and began repairs.

According to the region, they finished the job ahead of schedule on Thursday.

“We really want to thank everyone in Waterloo Region who stepped up and reduced their water use,” said Mari MacNeil, director of Water and Wastewater Service, in a press release. “It truly made a positive impact on our supply.”

Areas of Kitchener, Waterloo, the northwest part of Cambridge, Elmira, St Jacobs, Breslau, Shingletown, Mannheim Village, Lloyd Brown, West Montrose, Conestogo and St Agatha were all affected by the restrictions.

The region added that water conservation should always be considered, especially during summer months.
