Beryl brings record breaking amount of rain to Waterloo Region

By Christine Clark

The heavy rain in Waterloo Region on Wednesday filled up streams, rivers, and rain barrels, and also broke a weather record.

Environment Canada recorded a total of 55.3 mm of rain at the Region of Waterloo International Airport.

The most the region has seen in the past on a July 10, has been 20 mm, back in 2006.

The heavy rain triggered a rainfall warning for Waterloo Region and much of southern Ontario.

That warning was calling for between 40-60 mm of rain across the region.

The wet weather is on pause for now, with no rain in the forecast until Sunday, with a slight chance of thunderstorms as of Thursday afternoon.

Meantime, the former hurricane continues to be felt in the United States.

Millions are still without power in the Houston area, and severe flooding has been reported in Vermont.
