Police blitz nabs several speeders on McQueen Shaver Boulevard

A police blitz targeting speeders on a problematic roadway on the south edge of Cambridge yielded 30 charges in just five hours.

Regional Police were out on McQueen Shaver Boulevard, Saturday morning — a street residents have long complained about being a straightaway haven for racing.

Between roughly 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., police laid ten stunt driving charges; ten speeding charges; five careless driving charges and more.

Police tell CityNews 570 all those charges came from a mere twelve pullovers.

The highest alleged speeds of these drivers in the 60 km/h zone range from 102 to 117 km/h.

One driver was charged with distracted driving for allegedly being on a FaceTime call behind the wheel.

Police said ten vehicles were impounded.

McQueen Shaver, a stretch of new roadway with only one intersection between Water Street and Franklin Boulevard, has long been a focus of traffic safety worries for police, and residents.
