Fire damages House of Friendship site, resident requires medical care

A small fire damaged a House of Friendship shelter location over the weekend, sending a resident to hospital.

A statement to CityNews 570 from a spokesperson for the agency said it happened Saturday morning at 75 Charles St. East in Kitchener.

The location is described as “one of our supportive and affordable housing apartment buildings in downtown Kitchener.”

One resident ” is currently receiving medical care.”

Damage was contained to a single apartment.

The statement said it’s too early to know a dollar value to the damage, and repair needs are still being reviewed.

The agency is not seeking any special donations to cover the cost of the fire.

House of Friendship is “grateful for the concern and support we’ve received.”
