Cambridge City Council will hear a presentation Tuesday night for a building proposal of two apartment buildings in Galt.
The site at 30 Lauris Avenue would add 104 housing units within the 1.1353 hectares of land between a five-storey and three-storey building. The units would be a combination of market rate and affordable housing units, with 30 per cent of them being affordable for 40 years.
Multiple zoning changes would be required by council for the project to be approved. The current city bylaw requires parking spaces for each unit and another space per four units for visitor parking. The proposed design would have 85 total parking spots between the two buildings (0.81 spaces per unit), with 62 located outside and 23 under the five storey complex.
Another zoning change would apply to the number of units per hectare of land. The city has a maximum density of 40 units per hectare and the development would require 112.
The property is the site of a former school that has been vacant since it was demolished in 2008-2009. Amenities in the design include balconies, a cover patio and landscaped areas surrounding the buildings and parking areas.
Cambridge has pledged to build 19,000 units by 2031.
The council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
